Albert Payton Jr. was born August 30, 1938 to Albert Payton Sr. and Gladys Norman in Little Rock, Arkansas. Albert was the oldest of 9 children.
Albert left his hometown and relocated to Chicago, IL in the early 1950's. He attended Manley High School. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Wilma Jean Harris, who he affectionately called "Payton." Albert and Wilma were united in holy matrimony on June 15, 1958 in Chicago, IL. They shared 46 years of blissful marriage. To this union 10 children were born. They were both proud and supportive of all of their children.
Albert was a hard worker and provider. He was employed at Brach's Candy Factory for 36 years until his retirement. He worked 26 years for Stewart Bus Company as a bus driver. Albert also worked on the side as a plumber for many years. He loved riding his motorcycle and was a proud member of the Claim Jumpers. He was a family man and loved showing his children the finer things life had to offer.
Albert was a great communicator of life lessons and a great story teller. Once he got your attention, he shared great stories and family history. He also considered himself to be somewhat of a cook and always had freeze pops for the grands. His gift was a car to each of his children, teaching them how to drive, and doing all the maintenance on the cars himself.
Albert accepted Christ in his later years. He joined Mt. Carmel Holiness Church (Pastor Donald T. Coleman) at the suggestion of his wife, who always prayed that her family would be saved. How excited we were when he gave his life to the Lord and became the prayer warrior for the family! He was a member of Mt. Carmel until his health declined.
