Barbara J. McCabe, age 84, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, December 16, 2023.

Survived by her children, Amy (Timothy) Orenic, Patrick (Christine) McCabe Sr., Scott (Michelle) McCabe, and Megan (Frank) Castagnoli; grandchildren, Robert (Heaven) McCabe, Ashley McCabe, Allie McCabe, Patrick McCabe Jr., Braden McCabe, Madelyn McCabe, Keegan Castagnoli, and Kinsley Castagnoli; great-grandson, Brockton Watson; sister-in-law's, Janice Conway and Peg Esler. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by her husband, Patrick F. McCabe (April 25, 2023); parents, John (Florence) Esler; brothers, James Esler and Edward Esler.

Barbara grew up in Joliet where she graduated from Holy Cross Grade School, St. Francis Academy, and attained her associate degree from Joliet Junior College. Barbara worked at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale while her husband attended classes. She worked at Argonne National Laboratory as a secretary in various departments while raising four children, retiring in 2002 from the Chemistry Division. Barbara enjoyed making memories in the house her husband built in Shorewood. She was a member of The Elks Lodge, The Moose Lodge, and the St. Joe's Park Senior Club. Barbara loved to dance, sit by the water at Anna Maria Island, Florida or Jordan Lake, Wisconsin. She enjoyed being with family and friends, whether it was at home, hosting parties or at Jordan Lake with sunset putt putts on the lake.

Visitation for Barbara will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, IL. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 8:45 am from the funeral home to the Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough St., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.

Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park II (Hills of Rest).
