Obituary

Candace S. Antlitz (born Candace Spearman) passed away at home, age 82, with her family at her side on Thursday, July 10, 2025. She lived a long life devoted to her family, and is fondly remembered as a loving sister, aunt, mother and grandmother.

Born in 1942, Candace grew up in Middletown Indiana with her many brothers and sisters. She married her husband, Alfred Antlitz Jr, in 1961. Candace supported him while he attended Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, and they raised five children together in Schaumburg Illinois. Candace was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was always at the ready to help family in need. When her mother-in-law Mildred was bedridden, Candace worked tirelessly alongside her father-in-law to care for Mildred in her home. Later in life she and her husband moved to Shorewood Illinois with their younger children, where Candace was deeply involved in the raising of her beloved grandchild. Her husband Alfred died in 2013, and in her elderly widowed years Candace shared her home in a relationship of mutual support with her youngest son Charles, his wife Katie, and her grandson Jaime.

Candace loved to read on her Kindle. She was an avid video gamer adept at Zelda, Spyro, and online bingo. She helped her husband Alfred with the family business building circuit boards for radio equipment. She taught her children to ride street bikes, play softball, and enjoyed playing chess with her daughters. From driving her husband to the train station each morning to taking in family going through a rough spot in life, Candace lived a life of devoted service to her family.

Candace is survived by her children David (Laurel) Antlitz, Diana Antlitz, Deborah Antlitz, Susan Antlitz, and Charles (Katie) Antlitz; grandson Jaime Antlitz; sisters Linda (Ken) Counts, Janice Haynie, and Donna Coble; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Candace is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred C. Antlitz Jr, her parents Floyd (Margaret) Spearman; and her siblings Conrad Spearman, Edgar Spearman, Elmer Spearman, Max Spearman, Eric Spearman, and Cardonna Spearman.
