Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Leland Stebbins, age 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Morris, Illinois. He was born on April 9, 1939, in Lacon, IL. Chuck lived a full and hardworking life rooted in family, friendship, and a love of racing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 49 years, Chyrll J. Stebbins (née Giorgis); his mother, Ida Stebbins (nee Ryan); and his sister, Margaret Bolte.

Chuck is survived by his loving children, Michael (Laura) Stebbins of Wheaton, IL, and Melissa (Bob) Caruso of Morris, IL. Chuck was the proud grandfather of Michael, Chase, and MacKenzie Stebbins, Cali (DJ) Budde and Danny Caruso — his greatest joys. He is also survived by his brother, Phil Stebbins (Renetta Bridge); his sister, Millie Delrose; brother-in-law, Tim Delrose; sisters-in-law, Cookie Ostrem, Nina Kirincich and Cindy (George) Kontos; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Chuck was raised in Joliet, IL, and attended Joliet grade schools and Joliet Township Central High School. He later settled in Channahon, where he built a life and home for his family. A skilled craftsman and entrepreneur, Chuck was the owner of Nu-Finish Bathroom Remodeling. He also enjoyed ventures in car and real estate sales.

An avid fisherman and passionate collector, Chuck found happiness in simple pleasures. But his true passion was midget car racing. A lifelong fan and active supporter of the sport, he spent many years involved at multiple racetracks, where he forged lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. He kept time alongside Chyrll at car race events and held several board positions with the U.A.R.A. (United Auto Racing Association) and N.A.M.A.R. (National Alliance of Midget Auto Racing). He was a proud inductee to the Mazon Speed Bowl & Grundy County Speedway Hall of Fame Class of 2013. Volunteerism was also part of his makeup as he was a Minooka Community High School Board Member and past President and served the Channahon Youth Baseball League.

Chuck will be remembered for his sharp wit, unforgettable jokes — often delivered with a well-timed prop — and his knack for making people laugh. His legacy is one of living life on his own terms — with grit, heart, and humor. His famous one-liner being "Glad you got to see me!"

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle Joliet, IL 60431, whose compassionate care was a great comfort in his final days.

The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to all of the staff from Lightways, The Gardens at Park Pointe in Morris, Wynscape Health and Rehab in Wheaton and Marionjoy Rehabilitation Hospital for the care and attention Chuck received these past few months.

Per Chuck's wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A small ceremony and celebration of life will be at a later date. For more information, please call 815-725-0100 or visit www.farkasfuneralhome.com
