Christopher P.
Montana
Aug 16, 1964 — Apr 26, 2026
Christopher Paul Montana, known lovingly to most as Chris, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, on April 26, 2026, at the age of 61, leaving behind a life that was as memorable, entertaining, and full of heart as the man himself. He was the kind of person who could walk into a room and make it brighter, louder, and funnier, usually all at once. Chris lived with a spirit that was funny, generous, and passionate, and he carried those qualities into every chapter of his life. He was a Christian whose faith and kindness were reflected in the way he treated others, always with warmth, humor, and a genuine desire to help.
Chris frequently joked that life gave him a degree from the "School of Hard Knocks". He graduated from Morton West High School and later studied at Second City in Chicago, where his natural gift for timing, wit, and performance surely fit right in. He also became a certified John Maxwell Leadership Coach, a title that suited him well because Chris had a way of leading without pretense and encouraging others without ever making it feel like a lecture. He understood people, and he understood that the best kind of leadership often comes with a smile and a well-timed joke.
Chris proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.
For close to 30 years, Chris served as a trusted Notary, and in that role, he became known for his integrity, compassion, tireless work ethic and willingness to serve his community. He took pride in doing things the right way, and people trusted him because he earned that trust every single day. He also enjoyed driving for ride shares, which gave him the chance to meet new people and safely guide them to their destinations, likely with a few stories, a few laughs, and maybe even a helpful direction or two before they arrived. Over the years, Chris also explored coaching, sales, modeling, and acting, proving that he never met a path he could not make interesting.
His work even included an appearance in a well-known White Castle commercial, and he was proud to have been featured as an extra in many movies and television shows filmed in the Chicagoland area, memories he shared often and with obvious delight.
Chris was charismatic in the truest sense of the word. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable, and he was the kind of man who could turn strangers into friends with ease. He loved to have fun, tell jokes, and make people laugh, and he never seemed to run out of material. He was generous and caring, often doing things for others without expecting anything in return, which made his kindness even more remarkable. He especially loved spending time with his family, and some of his happiest moments were found in simple joys like trips to Disney World, watching movies, playing cards and games, driving and giving directions, and searching for treasures at estate sales. He had a special appreciation for the little pleasures in life, including Diet Coke from McDonald's, the Chicago Cubs, Captain America, fresh strawberry cheesecake, The Greatest Showman, Pitch Perfect, arcade games, and golfing.
He is forever loved and cherished by his wife, Dawn, and their children, Christian and Lexie, who will carry his stories, his humor, and his love with them always. He will be lovingly remembered by his treasured extended family, including goddaughters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who were fortunate enough to know him and be entertained by him. He leaves behind 5 siblings with whom he shared a lifetime of memories. In death, he was reunited with his parents, Jack and Georgia, and his 2 sisters.
Chris' family and friends will forever miss his stories, jokes, and larger-than-life personality. His life was a reminder that laughter is a gift, kindness matters, and a good story is always worth telling twice if the audience is right. If heaven has a comedy club, a McDonalds, and a front row seat to watch the Cubs, Chris has probably already found all three.
Though he is no longer here to brighten the room with his voice and his grin, Chris's legacy remains in every laugh he inspired, every person he helped, and every memory he made more vivid simply by being part of it. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left behind a remarkable imprint on the hearts of all who knew him.
