Obituary

Dora Mae McCormick, known lovingly to family and friends as Dora, was born September of 1928, in Thompsonville, Illinois, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 19, 2026, in Lockport, Illinois, from natural causes. She lived a long and faithful life, grounded in Christian values, devotion to her family, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew her.

Dora was a woman of grace, kindness, and steady faith. She carried herself with the humility and warmth that so often reflect a life lived in service to God and others. Her days were marked by hard work. She worked at Rockwell, Georgia Pacific and Totura's until it closed. Decided to retire in her late 70s, and care for her loved ones, and a sincere love for the simple blessings of home and family. She found joy in the things that brought people together, and she had a special gift for making others feel welcome and cared for.

She was a devoted member of KSKJ Life Lodge #29, and her involvement reflected her sense of fellowship and commitment to community. Dora also enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking great meals, and she took pride in sharing the fruits of her labor with those around her. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and abundance, where good food and loving conversation were always present. She also enjoyed playing euchre, dice, and other games, and she treasured the laughter and companionship that came with those moments. Above all, she cherished visiting with her family, and those visits were often filled with stories, smiles, and memories that will be held close by all who loved her.

Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul L. McCormick. She was also preceded in death by her brother Robert and her sisters Frances, Doris Jean, and Sheila Kay. Their passing marked deep losses in her life, but her faith sustained her through the seasons of grief and gave her hope in the promise of eternal life.

She is survived by her brothers Jesse and Bill, who remain to honor her memory. She is also survived by her children, Sandra Vidmar and her husband Mike, Kenneth McCormick and his wife Marla, Paula Priest, and Janet Novander and her husband John. Dora was a proud and loving mother, and her children were among the greatest blessings of her life. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her great joy and who will carry forward the legacy of her love, faith, and example.

Dora's life was a testimony to the values she held dear. She believed in the importance of family, the strength of prayer, the comfort of faith, and the dignity of honest work. She lived in a way that reflected the Christian hope she carried in her heart. Her life was not defined by grandeur, but by faithfulness, and that faithfulness left a lasting mark on everyone blessed to know her.

As her earthly journey has come to a close, we give thanks for the life of Dora Mae McCormick and commend her into the loving hands of her Savior. May she rest in eternal peace and may those who mourn her be comforted by the assurance of God's mercy and the promise of everlasting life. Her memory will remain a blessing, and her legacy of faith and love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
