Obituary

Florentina U. Igarta, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

Survived by her children, Elena Real, Ernesto (Santa) Igarta, Elizabeth (Daniel) Kowalski, and Evelyn Alhambra; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and her sisters, Saturnina Duque and Arsenia Anderson. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by her parents, Tomas (Daniela) Ulit Sr.; three brothers and one sister.

Florentina was born on May 16, 1928, in the Ilocos Norte province of the Philippines. While still in the Philippines, she performed secretarial work, which included typing scripts for actors and actresses and later side work for UCLA. She was a loving mother and worked to support her pride and joy – her four children.

She immigrated to the United States in 1976 and worked at a doctor's office as she called Chicago her new home. She later worked for Sears Corporation and celebrated twenty-five years there before retiring.

Florentina was the matriarch of the family and embodied resilience in the face of adversity. She relied on prayer for strength and was steadfast in her faith. Her zest for life and devotion for her family were unmatched. Her continued appetite for knowledge was evident in her loyalty to watching "Jeopardy." At the same time, she was just as passionate for sports as she was about the Royal Family.

While Florentina will be dearly missed, her legacy lives on in her children and generations thereafter. The most important lesson she taught those around her was how to love. She was genuine. She loved fiercely. She loved with her whole heart.

Private family services will be held.
