Gladdies "Glade" Mae Meyerhoff
Gladdies "Glade" Mae Meyerhoff, age 92, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ having lived a full life with her husband David "Dave", 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Born to Steven and Dorothy Weyandt, she was raised in Brule, Wisconsin with her two younger sisters. While earning a teaching degree at Superior State Teachers College, she met Dave who was attending electrical trade school in the area. They settled in Joliet, Illinois where the family electrical business was located and enjoyed many family get-togethers with brothers, sisters-in law, nieces and nephews.
Gladdies was preceded in death by her husband David Walter; son David Lee; and sister Jean. She leaves behind her youngest sister Mary; daughters, Mary Jo (Doug) Ward, Tammy, Gladdies (Joel) Lathrop; grandchildren, Dianna, Brent, Gabriel, Jennifer, Ethan, Marc, Sophia, Lydia; 15 great grandchildren.
Glade enjoyed photography, fishing, writing, music, and an intensely-played card game of "smear" around the kitchen table. A former freelance writer for the Joliet Herald News, her real passion was volunteer work in the Joliet/Plainfield communities that included: Crystal Lawns PTA President-honored with the National PTA Life Achievement Award, Plainfield Lioness Club, Girl Scout Troop leader, decades long Will County Head Election Judge for her precinct, church choir, St. John's Lutheran Church bell choir, Sunday School teacher, church circle leader, and advocate and educator for Wycliffe Bible Translators. Her favorite color was red, so Dave kept the house siding "very red" for over 50 years.
A small private family ceremony is planned.
