Gregg B.
Surges
Jan 2, 1971 — Nov 13, 2024
Gregg B. Surges embarked on his final joyride on November 13, 2024. Born on January 2, 1971, in Joliet, IL, Gregg's laughter-filled journey began, only to come to a peaceful close in Lockport, IL. His life was a series of punchlines and good times, though it was hypertension resulting in heart failure that ultimately decided to play the final jest.
Gregg's life was a testament to the power of humor and sarcasm. He was the beloved husband of Kelly (Volpp) Surges, and the proudest father to Geordi and Angel Surges. He was preceded in death by his first born, Austin Surges, his parents, Thomas Surges and Dolores Surges (nee Cotton), and leaves a legacy of laughter among his siblings: Thomas, Tim, and Tammy Surges, not to mention the numerous nieces and nephews who were often the eager audience to his comic genius.
A proud graduate of Joliet Central High School, Gregg's wit was as sharp as his intellect. For the past five years, he crafted more than just components as an Assembly Technician at Saddle Creek Logistics; he built a reputation for being the funny, friendly, and intelligent colleague who could lighten any load with a well-timed quip.
Gregg's interests were simple yet a reflection of the man he was, a cold beer in hand, watching car shows, or simply sitting outside in the summer, soaking in the sun's rays like a cat with a sense of humor. His laughter was infectious, his friendship a gift, and his intelligence a guiding light.
Gregg's life was not measured in years, but in the countless moments he left us chuckling and the warm memories that will forever play reruns in our hearts. He was a man who could find the funny in the mundane, a rare talent that made the world a brighter place for all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
So, here's to Gregg B Surges: a man who could laugh in the face of adversity, find joy in the simplest pleasures, and teach us all that intelligence and humor are the best companions on this wild ride called life. May his story be a reminder to all of us to take life one joke at a time and to never underestimate the power of a good laugh.
As we say our goodbyes to Gregg, let's not mourn the final curtain call but instead give a standing ovation for a performance well played. After all, in the words of another great humorist, Mark Twain, "The human race has only one really effective weapon, and that is laughter." Gregg wielded that weapon like a master, and for that, we are eternally grateful. May he rest in peace, and may his jokes live on forever.
Per Gregg's request, cremation rites have been accorded.
