John L. Baker Sr. aka "John Baker Boo boo" was born to Nancy and Nathaniel Baker Sr. on July 21, 1937, in Joliet IL. After 86 beautiful years of life, he was called home to be with the lord peacefully in the comfort of his home with his family at his side on Wednesday February 7, 2024.

John worked at West Pine Hotel for several years before retiring from John's Manville after 37 years of service. John Loved his family more than anything, especially his grandchildren. John loved listening to blues music, he loved being outdoors fishing and hunting. John also had a love for cooking and entertaining his family especially on Sundays. John loved watching sports; his favorite football team was the Chicago Bears. John had a way with words that would light up a room. He was the sweetest soul, and these memories will live on forever. John will be truly missed by his loved ones.

Preceded in death by his 1st wife, Geraldine Baker (nee Chandler); sons, Joel Baker and Gary Myers; infant daughter, Janine Baker; grandsons, Andrew Baker, and Stefon Baker; parents, Nathaniel (Nancy) Baker Sr., sister, Sarah Baker-Marsh.

Survived by his wife the love of his life for 31 years, Ruby Baker; children, Jolene Williams, Roxanne Baker, Janine Baker, Darren Washington, Kim (Danavious Hurd), Lasonya (Anthony) Green, John Baker Jr., Darnell Smith, Kerin (Tracy) Moore, Shawn (Chasity) Smith, and Nancy Baker; 37 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren. Special grandson, Jamal Norton; brother, Nathaniel (Karen) Baker Jr. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for John will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. John Church, 104 E. Zarley Blvd., Joliet, IL 60433 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of services. Pastor Herbert Brooks Jr. officiating. Per John's wishes cremation will be accorded following services.
