John was born on December 11, 1926, in Danville, IL to James H. and Hazel (nee Metheny) Hawkins. He attended school in Danville. When he was 17, he entered the United States Army and served in World War II. After his service he returned to complete his last 2 years of high School. John worked at an experimental farm and logging with his father-in-law. He moved to Joliet with his family and found employment at Monroe Hatchery and Weber Dairy. He also worked for Honiotes Grocery Store. He then started his own business in 1971 which became R & H Products and was active in the business until he was 90 years old. John was called Dad and grandpa to his children, grandchildren and all their friends. He would take the grandkids in his delivery truck to DQ. Our dads' favorite sayings were, I Love you and don't you forget it, I'll take you down to the pea patch and be nice. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Memorial service for John will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet IL.
