Obituary

Jose Jorge Torres, affectionately known as George to his loved ones, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Wilmington, Illinois, on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Born on March 17, 1952, in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, George brought a lifetime of joy, laughter, and creativity into the lives of those around him. He was a man whose presence was as warm and comforting as the meals he so loved to cook.

The son of Maria Trinidad and Gumersindo, George grew up with his siblings, Maria and Fermin. His journey led him to find love with his late wife, Jody Torres, with whom he shared many cherished years until her passing in 2007. Together they raised a beautiful family, including their daughters Sylvia, married to Robert, and Melissa, married to Oscar, and Lynda. George's role as a father was one, he held with the utmost pride and dedication.

George's legacy is carried on through his adoring grandchildren: Joey, Joshua married to Silina, Jacob, Faith, Xavier, Angelina, Jaden, James married to Heather, Kayla, and Aryanna. Each of them will hold dear the wisdom and humor their grandfather imparted. The family tree continued to blossom with the arrival of his great-grandchild, Mila, and the many nieces and nephews whose lives he touched deeply.

A man of numerous talents and interests, George was known for his exceptional cooking, which brought together family and friends for unforgettable gatherings. His passion for making DVDs captured precious memories that his family will treasure forever. George's artistic spirit was evident in his love for boxing, his creative endeavors, and the way he lived his life. He had a knack for fixing things, earning him the reputation of being incredibly handy. If somebody needed a helping hand George would selflessly offer a solution to try and help without hesitation, often known as a problem solver. His sense of humor was one of his most defining traits, often lighting up the room and bringing smiles to all.

Per Jose's request, cremation rites have been accorded.
