In Loving Memory of Joseph Harry Wortel
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Harry Wortel, who left this world on July 17, 2026, at the age of 77.
Joe was a proud veteran, dedicated union tradesman, and a true free spirit. He loved riding his Harley, cherished the brotherhood of his lifelong friends, and lived with generosity, integrity, and an unforgettable sense of humor. While he enjoyed many passions, nothing brought him greater joy than his family and close friends.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and an adored Papa. His happiest moments were spent with his children and grandchildren, sharing stories, cheering them on, making them laugh, and creating memories they will carry forever. His unconditional love and steady presence were gifts that will never be forgotten.
Joe will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the friendships he treasured, and the many lives he touched.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Wortel; his daughters, Sarah Wortel, Beth Booe (Justin Booe), and Jessica Eiler (Randy Eiler); his cherished grandchildren, Kathryn, Abigail, Charlie, Magdalyn, and Maely Booe, and Evan, Emily, and Ethan Eiler; his brothers, Ronald, Robert, and Edward Wortel; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Dorothy Wortel, and his brother Raymond Wortel and sister Dorothy "Dottie" Wortel.
Funeral services with Military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to attend as we honor Joe's service to our country and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's honor to Wreaths Across America or the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Squad, organizations dedicated to honoring and remembering our nation's veterans
