Obituary

Karen T. Tormey, a cherished matriarch whose warmth and courage touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, at the age of 69 in Joliet, IL. Born on June 26, 1955, in Chicago, IL, Karen grew to be a remarkable woman whose life was defined by her love for her family, her unwavering strength, and her thoughtful nature.

Karen's interests were diverse and joyful. She had a passion for traveling, which saw her exploring new places. However, it was the time she spent with her grandchildren that she cherished most. Karen's face would light up with joy whenever she was with them.

Described by those who knew her as loving, Karen's heart knew no bounds. Her courageous spirit was evident in her battle with cancer, facing the disease with a resilience that inspired all around her. She was also incredibly thoughtful, always putting the needs of others before her own and making sure her loved ones felt supported and cared for.

She is survived by a loving and extensive family. Her children, John (Amy) Tormey, Shannon (Dan) Battiato, Kelly (Frank) Battiato, Daniel (Amanda) Tormey, and Joseph (Christy) Tormey, will forever treasure the lessons and memories shared with their beloved mother. Karen's legacy continues with her grandchildren, Kayla (Kevin) Tormey, Rachel Tormey, John Tormey III, Dominic Battiato, Abria Tormey, Savannah Battiato, Vincent Battiato, Daniel Tormey Jr, Elizabeth Battiato, Hailey Tormey, Dylan Tormey, Frank Battiato Jr, and Ethan Battiato. She also held a special place in her heart for her bonus grandchildren, Serenity Guin, Hannah Curnell, and Dylan Curnell. The recent joy of becoming a great-grandmother to Kashton Battiato brought her immense happiness and pride.

Karen's passing is a profound loss to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Though her physical presence is no longer with us, the essence of who Karen Tormey was – a loving mother, grandmother, and friend – will never be forgotten. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. As we say goodbye to Karen, we celebrate the remarkable life she led and the countless ways she enriched our lives.

In honoring Karen's memory, we reflect on her life lived with purpose and the immeasurable impact she had on those around her. We take comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on through the cherished memories we hold and the love that binds us together.

Karen's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, where her family will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears, remembering a life truly well-lived. Her memory will be kept alive in the hearts of all who loved her, and she will be deeply missed.
