Obituary

Mary A. Kolcz, age 58, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with metastatic lung cancer.

Survived by her children, Teddy Kolcz II, Megan (Patrick) Fitzgibbons, and David Kolcz; siblings, Stanley Wisniowicz III, Barbara Gentile, Kathleen Hernandez, and David (Nadine) Wisniowicz; father of her children, Teddy Kolcz. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Preceded in death by her parents, Stanley (Dolores) Wisniowicz Jr.

Mary was born in the heart of Chicago on November 16, 1965. A woman with endless compassion and willingness to show her silly side to make others laugh. Her ability to comfort and protect was a cherished gift for all who knew her or ever sought her advice. Mary had one of the most genuine souls and never had a problem 'telling it like it is.'

Admittedly, Mary's life was hard and that is worth noting. She always found ways to smile. Her unwavering determination served her well in her early years and through her battle with cancer. She struggled but she never stopped taking steps forward to better her own life, and the lives of those she loved.

Above all else she loved. She loved fully and completely in a way you could feel when in her presence. It was a love you cannot replicate. Being loved by her was special. It felt safe and warm. She made sure those around her, especially her children, knew they were loved so deeply. Mary was a woman that would go to the end of the earth for the comfort of those she loved. Many of us wish she had been as gentle with herself at times. She was truly the most selfless woman. She fought harder than anyone knew possible. Mary deserves the eternal peace she now has, until we meet her smiling face and open arms again. We will miss her for the rest of our days, but know she is always with us.

In lieu of flowers, Mary requested those funds be donated to Lightways Hospice located in Joliet. Their care and kindness meant so much to her and her loved ones, especially in her final week. They helped give her back the joyous smile and delighted laugh she always had before her horrific battle. For that we cannot thank them enough.

Per Mary's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will follow in a couple of months for all who wish to attend. Location and date TBD.
