Mary E.
Sohr
Oct 24, 1953 — Jan 17, 2026
Mary Elizabeth Sohr, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, left us on January 17, 2026, due to complications from breast cancer. Born on October 24, 1953, in Houston, Texas, Mary was the daughter of Marshall and Marie Collins, both of whom preceded her in death. Mary was the epitome of knowledge and kindness, known for her intelligence, courage, and unwavering spirit.
Mary's formative years were spent in Joliet, Illinois, where she would later graduate from Joliet Central High School in 1972. Married to her devoted husband, Ken, her childhood friend of 63 years, Mary was the loving mother of three sons, Adam, Ryan, and Todd (deceased). Her joy was multiplied by her six grandchildren, including Emelia and Harper, who, along with her daughter-in-law, Courtney, added great delight to her life. Mary's family was the epicenter of her world, and she was the glue that held them together through every joy and challenge.
An avid reader, Mary, often could be found curled up with a book that transported her to other worlds and times. Her love for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears was a testament to her dedication, as she stood by her teams through thick and thin. As a lifelong dog lover, Mary found companionship and comfort in her canine friends, who were always by her side. Mary expressed her love and creativity through crocheting, creating memories for her loved ones. She also had a competitive spirit, showcasing her skills at the local bowling alley, which was one of her favorite hobbies.
Mary's life was marked by her courageous battle with breast cancer, a testament to her strength and perseverance. Her struggle was faced with the same grace and resilience that characterized her entire being. Even in her final days, Mary continued to be an inspiration to all who had the privilege of getting to know her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and the indelible impact of her presence in the lives of all who knew her. Mary Elizabeth Sohr will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit continues to live in the hearts of her dearest family and friends. Her life was a beautiful testament to the power of kindness and the strength of the human spirit.
