Richard J.
O'Connor
Jan 5, 1949 — Feb 2, 2026
Richard O'Connor, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving sons on February 2, 2026, in Joliet, Illinois. Born on January 5, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Richard and Anna (Olznoi) O'Connor, Richard's life was a testament to his selfless, thoughtful, and loving nature.
After graduating from Providence High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of the first Calvary in the Vietnam War. A period that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Richard returned back home and continued his 40-year career with Jewel Osco.
An avid sports enthusiast, Richard's passion for the Chicago Blackhawks, Bears, and White Sox was well-known, and he was secretly pleased when the Cubs won the Series in 2016. He was an avid fisherman, and boat enthusiast, and later in life enjoyed puzzles. Richard was always ready to engage in a lively conversation, sharing stories and laughter with all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Kolich; brother, Donald O'Connor; and niece, Diana Troutman.
Richard's legacy is carried on by his wife, Karen O'Connor; children: Michael (Kristy) O'Connor, Patrick (Mandy) O'Connor, and Rich (Vani) O'Connor; stepchildren, Deanna Frazier, and Gabriel (Shelly) Cirrintano; grandchildren, Khali, Claire, Jake, Annabelle, Christopher, Vanessa, and Mikey O'Connor. DJ, and Jasmine Frazier, and Briah Cirrintano will forever cherish the memories and lessons he imparted.
Richard is also survived by his sisters, Geraldine Troutman and Annette (Terry) Robbins, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and his beloved pets, Keeto and Archie. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took every opportunity to express his love and support for each of them.
Richard's character was marked by his selflessness. He was always the first to offer help and the last to ask for anything in return. His thoughtful gestures and loving demeanor were the hallmarks of a life well-lived, touching the hearts of many.
As we bid farewell to Richard O'Connor, we celebrate a life that exemplified the best of humanity. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will remain a comforting presence in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Richard's journey through life was a beacon of love and kindness, and his story will be told with fondness and admiration for generations to come.
