Roy J.
Washington Jr.
Dec 18, 1946 — Dec 9, 2024
Roy Jr. Washington was born on December 18, 1946, to Bernice and Junior Ray Washington. Roy departed his life just shy of his 78th birthday. Roy passed in comfort with Tara and Dominick by his side on December 9, 2024.
Roy graduated from Joliet East High School and shortly thereafter was drafted in the U.S. Army to be sent to Korea. The end of his tour in Korea he returned back to the Joliet area where he worked for Caterpillar and GAF before working for himself. Roy was a skilled man who was self-taught through his interests. Roy was a known mechanic and auto body repairman. Roy could build and fix anything. Roy enjoyed the outdoors, be it fishing, sitting in the garage with friends and his brothers listening to Blues or riding ATV's. Roy had a love for motorcycles, big trucks, riding horses and playing Guitar. Roy was what you would call "a Man's Man". He will be sorely missed.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents Junior Ray and Bernice Washington, Sister in-law Regina Washington, Brother in-law John Baker.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Marcus Washington and Dominick Washington, daughter, Tara (Willie Gatlin) Morrow-Gatlin, Granddaughter Tiara Washington and Grandson Cole Gatlin, his siblings Ruby Joyce Baker, Charles Washington, Greg Washington, Sheila Washington, Gary (Kathy) Washington, hosts of Nieces, Nephews, cousins and friends along with a special cousin Bobby Turner and a close friendship with his ex-wife and mother of Dominick and Tara, Denice Osborne.
Funeral services for Roy will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at St. John Church, 104 E. Zarley Blvd., Joliet, IL 60433 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of services. Pastor Herbert Brooks Jr. officiating. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
