Shawn A.
Rittenberry
Nov 29, 1981 — Feb 22, 2026
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shawn Alan Rittenberry, who left us suddenly on February 22, 2026, at the age of 44.
Shawn leaves behind those who loved him deeply: his beloved mother, Patsy Skinner; his siblings, Kristal and Nicholas Rittenberry; his cherished nephew, Shontez Rittenberry; his grandparents, Barbara Mason and Joseph (Dorothy) Chickerillo; his aunts Toni Brodnick, Donna Biesterfield, and Karen Beals; his uncle Joseph Chickerillo; along with many cousins and close friends whose lives were forever touched by his presence.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Chickerillo; stepfather, Robert Skinner; his aunt, Diane Turrentine; his grandfather, Daniel Rittenberry; and his grandmother, Elaine Whitehead, who now welcome him home.
Shawn was one of a kind, a soul who lived life unapologetically on his own terms. Growing up moving from place to place, mostly in the south suburbs, he carried a deep and lasting love for the city of Chicago, a love he wore proudly tattooed on his arm. He had an infectious spirit and a gift for conversation; Shawn could strike up a story with anyone and make them feel like an old friend within minutes. He loved animals and once spent time working at a humane society in Oak Lawn, showing the gentle and caring side that so many knew and loved. Cars were more than a job to him, they were a passion. He turned that passion into a career as a mechanic, taking pride in working with his hands and fixing what others couldn't. Shawn's personality shined brightly in everything he did. He always had the perfect shoes and a matching hat for any occasion, expressing himself in his own unmistakable way. But what defined him most was his heart. Even if he had little for himself, he would give without hesitation. He would offer out his last dollar, his favorite pair of shoes, or whatever he had if someone else was in need, never expecting anything in return. He was a simple man who found joy in the little things. Good music, good stories, and making something meaningful out of nothing. His laughter, his kindness, and his unforgettable presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Though Shawn is no longer with us in person, his spirit lives on in the memories he created the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely. He will be missed beyond words.
A celebration of life for Shawn will be held at Farkas Funeral home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
