Obituary

Stella Sucy passed away peacefully at 91. She was born in El Paso Texas to parents Elisa and Juan Herrera in January 1934. She grew up in Texas and California, the youngest of 7 sisters and 2 brothers. She and her ex-husband Jose Carrillo moved to Joliet with their two children Carmen and George Carrillo in the 1950's. She lived in Joliet, becoming a beautician, and owning salons in downtown Joliet. In her later years, she also worked many part-time jobs at local retail stores, the Will County Courthouse Snack Shop, and most recently as an in-house caregiver to elderly and disabled persons. She finally retired in her mid-80's, but still continued to be active. She lived most of her life in her current home.

She was proceeded in death by her daughter Carmen, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son George. She is also survived by Carmen's kids, Grand-daughter Carrie (Cameron) DelRose and her husband Mike, and their daughter's Samantha and Angelina, Grand-daughter Jessica (Van Horn) Morrie and her husband Nick, their kids Michael and Veronica, and Grand-son John Van Horn and third Grand-daughter Anna Swanson, and their kids Julia, Johnny Dougie and Abigail. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Stella loved spending time with her grandkids and especially her great-grand kids. Affectionately known as Granny, she was known to stop by often to "drop off something for the kids". She enjoyed talking politics and local history and had plenty of colorful stories to share. She was proud of her accomplishments, including graduating high school at 16, owning and running her own Beauty Shop, and being independent and self-sufficient most of her life. She was an avid collector of many things, including antiques, dolls and keepsakes, and she loved to find a good deal.

Through our lifetime, Granny was a consistent we could depend on and was always there in times of need, sorrow and joy. We are grateful for her 91 years; we will miss her stories and her visits. The family is grateful to Joliet Hospice and their team and for her caregiver Daphne for helping to keep her comfortable in her final days. Private services to be held by the family, with entombment Woodlawn Memorial Park.
