William J. McGrath, age 76, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Survived by his wife of 26 years, Dianne McGrath (nee Cleary); children, Christine (Manus) McClafferty and Matthew McGrath; grandchildren, Alex (Anne) Gleason, Ryan (Ellen) Gleason, Meghan Gleason, Nicholas McGrath, Tristan (Savanna) McGrath and Alyssa McGrath; great grandchildren, Everett McGrath, and Thea McGrath; siblings, Thomas (Nancy) McGrath, Martha (Thomas) Las, Timothy (Patricia) McGrath, and Patrick (Pam) McGrath. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents, John (Dorothy) McGrath.

Bill was born in Sterling Illinois. Graduated from Joliet Catholic High School. He retired after 32 years of employment as a Machinist with the Joliet Caterpillar plant. He enjoyed his retirement of 26 years with working in his yard, tinkering in the garages, being the household handyman and taking care of his dogs.

He was a private person but chose to participate for several years in a support group for neck and throat cancer survivors as he felt he could offer insights and encouragement to those starting the journey he had already made. If you had met him, you would say he had a dry sense of humor, a very definitive strong voice on politics, and yet he was a good and gentle soul. He put the health and happiness of his family before his own in many ways.

A private family celebration of his life will be held. As it was William's request, cremation rites have been accorded.
